Dawn Patrol
Reading the latest Cycling UK magazine I came across an article about the Edinburgh Dawn Patrolwritten by Markus Stitz (the person behind the Dirt Dash).
This is a group of cyclists that meet twice a week at 5:40 in Edinburgh to complete a 19mile loop. The loop is on road, moderately hilly and accessible for any type of bike.
I love the idea of completing a ride before the majority of people have even woken up! I’m considering what the equivalent route would be around here?
Needs
- Approximately 15-20miles so that it can be completed in plenty of time for those that need to be in work (including me!)
- Suitable in all weathers and in the dark - it would run at a consistent time all year.
- Suitable for all bikes (no squeeze gates etc) - accessible for everyone.
- Travel through key villages and local town to allow as many people to join the loop at whichever point they wish.
- Be suitable for all rider abilities - achievable.
- Have suitable escape points for mechanical failures
- Consistent days / times
- Circular route (with shortcuts if needed?)
- Finish at / Pass a coffee shop for socialisation if needed / wanted.
Any other needs?
Edinburgh also have a gravel version. Something to consider if the road version gets up and running!
